Small Steam Boiler PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 01 October 2006

After completing my first steam engine I thought I would have a go at building a small boiler, a vertical firetube design was decided upon.  The last time I did any copper working was back at school ( about 30 years ago ).  My nine year old daughter helped to flange the end plates, the main boiler tube is a piece of 1.6mm 2" diameter copper pipe, the end plates are of 2mm thick copper, the firetubes are 1/4" copper hydraulic pipe, the fittings are of bronze.   The whole unit is silver soldered.

The unit has undergone a hydraulic test to 140 psi, the envisaged working pressure will be 60 psi.

Update 11th Dec 2008

Finally started to make some headway on this project, ( after making some bending rolls )
